W Series: Formula One Racing For Women

The last time a woman drove in a Formula One race was over 30 years ago. Since then, no woman has made it to formula 1. Formula One is like the UEFA of Motorsports. In fact, in a long while women have not been able to make it past Formula three. Due to majorly funding for them and opportunities, not necessarily a lack of talent.

Ironically, Motorsports happen to be one of the very few sports where men and women can compete against each other on an equal footing. However, there are only about 8 % of females in the sport as at this time.

The tournament is called the W series, and it’s an only women tournament, the aim is to find the next women talent who can make it into Formula one racing.

The series has received support from F1 driver David Coulthard, Adrian Newey Design Chief at Red Bull and Catherine Muir  who will be the CEO. Catherine is corporate financier and sports lawyer.

According to a statement by the organizers of the championship “At the heart of W Series’ DNA is the firm belief that women can compete equally with men in Motorsports,” a statement said.

“However, an all-female series is essential in order to force greater female participation. “W” Series is therefore a mission-driven competition, the aim of which is not only to provide exciting racing for spectators and viewers on a global scale, but also to equip its drivers with the experience and expertise with which they may progress their careers, racing and honing their skills in “W” Series before eventually graduating to existing high-level mainstream racing series.”
