Ekweremadu Escapes Assassination Attempt  

The Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu has escaped, what has been alleged to be assassination attempt. The attack happened in the early hours of Tuesday at about 4am, when the armed men gained access into his residence.

One of the armed men was caught, and has since be handed over to the police, however he has refused to say anything.  Uche Anichukwu, the media aide to the Deputy Senate president has said it was an assassination attempt. According to the aide, One of the armed men force Ekweremadu’s son to take him to his father’s bedroom, “It was at the senator’s bedroom that a struggle ensued, leading to the arrest of one of the assailants with dangerous weapons and housebreaking devices, while the rest managed to escape,” the aide said.

“The arrested member of the gang has, however, refused to divulge any information on the operation and has been handed over to the police.

“Ekweremadu, his wife, and one of his sons were in the house at the time of the attack. It could be recalled that the lawmaker narrowly escaped an attempt on his life in Abuja on November 17, 2015.

“Although the 2015 incident was reported to the security agencies, nothing has been heard about the matter till date.”

This is like the first time something like this is happening. The Senate President has scolded the Nigerian Police for their laxity and their slow response time. He has also charged them to find the culprits and make sure they are brought to book.
