Fela Durotoye Picks Running Mate

Just this week, we’ve seen a lot of presidential aspirants kick off their presidential campaign. Just as INEC lifted the ban on campaign, on November 19. Fela Durotoye, the presidential aspirant for Alliance For New Nigeria (ANN) also has started his campaign and officially talked about his dream for Nigeria. He officially declared his interest in Abuja.

For the major contenders, meaning PDP and APC we already know their running mates. Atiku’s running mate is Peter Obi, former Anambra state governor. President Buhari’s running mate is his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osibajo.

On Wednesday, Fela Durotoye joined the ranks of those presidential aspirants who had picked their running mates. On Twitter, he announced his running mate to be Khadijah Abdullahi-Iya. Fela said he picked a woman as his running mate, to fulfil the promise which he made and also because it is his ambition to empower woman.

Khadijah Abdullahi-Iya is from Bida in Niger state, a graduate of law from the University of Abuja, she also has a masters in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos.

So why did he pick Khadijah amongst many other women? Mr Durotoye said it was because she’s being actively involved in social enterprises and building businesses.

“She established and launched Rags to Riches (R2R) clubs 8 public schools in Kaduna and Abuja extended to out of school programs (IDP Schools) in collaboration with Life Builders Initiatives another NGO in Abuja & has grown to over 181 members.

“Khadijah’s objective is to keep finding innovative ways to add value to communities advocating for literacy through fun learning from the cradle, which earned her an award for Excellence; for promoting quality Education In Nig, from the Civil society Action coalition on Education.  Her life’s goal is to chart a legacy through social impact.

Mr Durotoye wants a woman who’s capable of leading the nation, in case something happens to the president.
