Fayose Pays EFCC A Visit

The new Governor of Ekiti state Dr Kayode Fayemi was sworn in yesterday. This means that the immediate past Governor, Ayo Fayose, has lost his immunity which hitherto stopped him from being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission.

Fayose had promised he was going to meet EFCC immediately after his tenure as governor of the state. And true to his words, he was at the EFCC headquatres in Abuja, on Tuesday. He was there in the company of lots of very important personalities. Including the one-time aviation minister Femi Fani Kayode, the Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike and a retinue of lawyers including SAN, Mike Ozekhome.

According to sources, he was treated with utmost courtesy by the EFCC officials.  He spent hours in EFCC headquatres as he was quizzed about some financial dealings he was alleged to have taken part in.  He was alleged to have received some funds from Musiliu Obanikoro who was former minister of state for defense.  This was in 2014, the said amount is about 1.3 billion Naira.

Fayose was told to write down a statement saying how he spent the money. He was said to have denied receiving the said funds, although their seemed to be overwhelming evidence against him. Fayose wasn’t the only one alleged to have taken part in this funds misappropriation.

Others included in this alleged corruption are Senator Iyiola Omisore, a pilot, Abiodun Agbele, Fayose’s Aide and many others. This investigation had begun in 2015, bankers, Bureau De Change officers, and some military personnel have been questioned in this investigation. However, Fayose has been told to return the 1.3 billion naira which he was alleged to have received.

As at the time of this writing, Ayo Fayose is still in EFCC custody, as we receive information, we’d let you know.
