N.O.S.C. Picks Genevieve’s “Lionheart” For Oscar.

After a statutory vetting and subsequent voting of entries received from Nigerian movie makers home and abroad, the body announced the selection today.

The movie produced by chinny onwugbenu, chichi nwoko, Genevieve Nnaji,” Lionheart” has been picked by the Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee as the country’s submission to the international feature film category of the 2020 Oscars.

The movie “Lionheart” premiered at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)2018 and was acquired as Netflix original movie produced in Nigeria on September 7,2018.

In January 4 2019,”Lionheart” was released worldwide after a December 2018 theatrical release in Nigeria.

Notable and legendary personalities like Genevieve Nnaji, Ngozi Ezeonu, Nkem Owoh, Onyeka Onwenu, Kanayo o Kanayo, chika okpala, kalu ikeagwu, sanni mu’azu, yakubu Mohammed, Pete edochie, Peter okoye, and phyno starred in the movie.

The NOSC was inaugurated in 2014 as a 12 man team chaired by chineze Anyaene: producer and Director of ‘ije’ and foremost film maker and chairman of Audio visual Rights Society (A.V.R.S) of Nigeria with Mr. Mahmood Ali Balogun as Vice Chairman.

The group declared that this is the first time Nigeria is advancing a film to the Oscar as the entries made earlier by the committee did not meet basic rules.

Anyaene said “while we cannot say that what we have the best that Nigeria is capable of producing, it is encouraging to know that from the strength of the entries received this year, we are truly ready for the Oscars. Film makers are gradually taking the Oscar rules into consideration and I have no doubt that it is going to be more competitive going forward”.

Other members of the NOSC team includes Shaibu Hussein; film maker/author, Charles Novia; award winning film maker, Bruce Ayonote;CEO of legend Box office, film maker and talent manager, Mildred Okwo; Journalist /film critic, C.J Obasi; top actor, Ramsey Nouah; versatile director and cinematographer, Adetokunbo ‘DJ Tee’ Odubawo: movie producer, Ngozi Okafor AFRIFF Founder, Chioma Ude and director of Green-white-Green, Abba Makama.

 Usually, every country outside the United States are expected to submit one film so far it is not basically in English language. Also considered in this category are films in pidgin which are subtitled like any other language film.

Meanwhile last year,the Mexican film written,directed and produced by Alfonso Cuaron; ‘Roma’ happens to be the first Mexican film to win the Oscar award in best foreign language film category.
